The term Urban Dweller is used at INTRSCT to describe not only a staff position but a philosophy of ministry in the city. We believe it is vitally important
to dwell among those that we serve especially in the urban context. Urban areas pose unique challenges, many of which do not exist elsewhere.
The Urban Dweller strives to meet these challenges by first becoming a neighbor and then a friend to those in need. We believe that this is the most
effective way to answer the call of Jesus—to love our neighbors as ourselves.
At INTRSCT, when a person becomes an Urban Dweller, it means that they have committed to serving the under-served for at least one year in exchange for housing, health insurance and a small monthly stipend.
During this year, they develop and use their God given talents and gifts to enhance the community ministry of INTRSCT in its targeted neighborhoods. This yearlong commitment provides a unique ministry opportunity to college graduates that accentuates the abundant life for each participant and to each in the community.
The emphasis of the Urban Dweller is first to build community and relationships with each other and then to those in the urban community. The tasks that each Urban Dweller performs will vary, but all are aimed at bringing Christ's message of love, strength and redemption to those who haven't seen the Gospel expressed relationally.
