Faith Events are all of the activities at INTRSCT which have an intentional purpose of sharing and experiencing the truth of God's Word planned into the event.
This is where we declare and demonstrate both the vertical truth of the cross—that we have been reconciled to God through Jesus Christ—and the horizontal
reality that the walls dividing people from one another have been crushed and that we are now one blood-related family in Christ.
Faith events simply put, are what make us not just another social service agency. Over time, INTRSCT has developed a wide variety of Faith Events among which are:
Bible Studies
Some of our students hear the Word of God for the first time while at INTRSCT. As our high school students mature, their minds and hearts want to know more about Him! To cultivate this desire, we provide bible studies for young men and women which alternate almost every Friday with our "10:10" events. This is an opportunity to discuss the Bible and learn together in a safe, small group setting.
10:10's
This is our primary worship event for INTRSCT youth. Deriving its name from John 10:10, this event meets at the church every other Friday night for food, games, worship through music and a brief message. We
find this to be a crucial time of fellowship which allows students to experience God's love in practical ways.
Late Night Soccer
Youth love sports! Soccer is one of the most popular activities in our community, so we joined in! Following most 10:10's, ChiTown Futbol opens its doors and allows our high school youth to come play for free until the early morning hours. All games begin with a bible study. During basketball season, we often stay at the church gym to play as an alternative to soccer.
Leadership Training
We have many young leaders who have gone through the "ropes" of INTRSCT and have expressed a desire to serve in the community. Excited by this, we have opened up opportunities for some of our high school
students to lead as Junior Staff during our After School program and F.A.S.T. Camp. Some teach guitar, sports, and Art while others come to simply help out where help is needed!
Mentoring
One-on-one or in small group settings, INTRSCT's student mentoring program continues to prove itself as a valuable time of growth and relationship building. Our staff and volunteers meet up with students as often as
they can to talk about life and to learn more about them in a different setting. In these times, we hear their stories, get to know their families and truly gain a deeper perspective on who God has made them to be.
Retreats
We love Chicago, but every once in awhile we need to get away! We schedule 2 to 3 out-of-state retreats each year in order to experience the world outside of this great city. When we are not retreating to the "church-turned home" of Dave and Paula Clark in Attica, IN, we are visiting our friends at Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene. We do our best to experience the great outdoors through nature hikes, picnics, campfires and outdoor games. It is unique for both our students and staff, and we value every minute of it.
